You may have heard during an ultrasound that your pregnancy is not going well and that you can expect a miscarriage. Or you have blood loss and the miscarriage suddenly starts without notice.
Bleeding is normal during loss. It can be similar to a heavier period. However, if blood loss becomes excessive, it is crucial to contact our practice immediately.
Mild to moderate cramps are common during a miscarriage. This is due to uterine contractions. Paracetamol can help relieve this pain.
Your body may have already gone through a lot of changes because of pregnancy. Now your body is going to have to let go of the pregnancy. This physical and emotional process takes a lot of energy. Many women feel intense tiredness during this period.
When to call us Although blood loss and severe cramping in your stomach or back are normal, there are also situations where immediate medical attention is required. Contact us if you:
Excessive blood loss: If you find that you need to change more than one sanitary napkin per hour, call us immediately. This can be a sign of complications.
Fever developed: A persistent fever may indicate an infection. Let us know right away if you have a temperature above 38 degrees Celsius.

To go through this process as comfortably as possible, we recommend having:
Paracetamol and/or naproxen can help relieve pain and cramps. Use medication as prescribed on the package or as advised by our midwife.
Sanitary towels: During a miscarriage, the use of sanitary towels is more appropriate than tampons. It provides comfort and makes it easier to keep track of blood loss.
The loss of a pregnancy often involves profound emotional changes. Every woman experiences grief in her own way and at her own pace. It's essential to give yourself space for emotions and to be surrounded by understanding people.
