The maternity nurse is a unique Dutch profession. After giving birth, she will take care of you and your baby for a few hours every day for 1 week. She performs medical checks, guides you through recovery and teaches you how to take care of your baby and what to look out for. Maternity care also supports you in feeding your child. A lot can come your way, especially when it comes to breastfeeding, where good maternity care is essential. She gives your family an optimal and loving start. If your maternity nurse thinks there are signs of complications, she will contact your midwife. She will also assist during the birth if you want to give birth at home. The midwife and maternity nurse work closely together. It's nice if they have the same ideas about what good care is to give you the landing you need as a young family.
We have a great collaboration with the maternity nurses below. We recommend that you already register with one of these maternity nurses after the intake interview with your midwife. Small-scale maternity care offices fill up quickly.
